An American Airlines flight (AA 2293) from San Francisco, CA to Dallas, TX was forced to make an emergency landing at SFO airport after panels inside the plane’s cabin began to tear apart in mid-air.

The American flight safely landed at 2:15PM local time, the flight had been airborne for an hour prior to its return to SFO airport. The flight was operated by a Boeing B757 aircraft.

American Airlines spokesman, Matt Miller, said that the pilot made the decision to return to SFO “after several interior wall panels came loose while in the air.”

While the FAA said that the plane lost cabin pressure, an American Airlines spokesperson said that the plane never lost cabin pressure and that the oxygen masks were never deployed. The American spokesperson said that the tears may have been caused by a faulty air duct.

The FAA has said that it will work with American Airlines before the Boeing 757 aircraft takes off again. All passengers aboard the flight will be put up in hotels and rebooked on another flight.
